Need a little picture help
« on: August 15, 2011, 11:07:46 PM »
Hi all, you surely know that famous picture of MK from the "A Night in London" VHS/DVD - it was also used as promo poster during the Golden Heart tour:

http://www.guitar-players-toolbox.com/images/mark-knopfler-21358887.jpg

Now, I dug out my MK picture collection and found it, but in a very poor resolution only (I must have saved it before I started working for newspapers... Because there, you learn that low-res pictures are an absolute no-go). So my question is, does anybody have a high-res version of that pic (the bigger, the better)? Or maybe a similar one of MK in "Guitar God" pose, preferably from the Straits era? I'd love to print it out... I also found some posters on ebay but they all have writing on it and would only be my second choice. Any help would be appreciated!  :) :)

Although it seems to be a scanned picture of the whole cover and it is a bit too dark, the resolution is 1600x1085.

BTW, for printing out really large images out of low-resolution pictures, I may recommend the Rasterbator at: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

This little program extrapolates the pixel array of the source file which adds an interesting dot matrix effect (like in the Roy Lichtenstein pictures) to the enlarged picture that can be printed on multiple A4 sheets afterwards.

Well if you find a clean hi res version i'd like to get one.

Or if somebody know how to get in touch with the photographer or his representant to buy a print.
(although I fear very high price asked if original print - but I am in love with that pic)

Please note that there are at least 2 different pictures used from that session : one with the left hand near the neck and another one with the left hand near the body.

A french guitar magazine from early 90's did use it as the central  poster.

BTW I found that one :

And the "alternate" pose :

I found the info.

This poster was published in France by Guitarist Magazine

Edit : got a contact with a seller and although the right magazine not the correct issue. THE ISSUE SHOWN BELOW IS NOT THE ONE that featured my poster. Correct issue is #36 from may 1992 featuring Carlos Santana on cover (no pic available)

Probable issue #72 - september 1995

I have poster but too big to my scanner.

This is exactly the same picture (left hand near the neck)

Thanks for the replies so far, and the pictures!

IIRC, the pic in question was also used for a mini poster advertisement for D'Addario strings. I am almost sure it was attached in the centrefold of the OES tourbook, or the STP tourbook... I am also almost sure I have it, but I can't bloody find it  :(

It looks very similar to this one (but smaller I think):

This must be one of the best MK stage pics, my favorite too. I love the play of light and shadow on Mark's face here, as well as deep emotions and dedication. I tried to capture the atmosphere of this pic when I had my avatar picture taken.
...Well, he's a big star now but I've been a fan of his for years. The way he sings and plays guitar still bring me to tears...

This is my most favorite picture of Mark also.  I'd like to have it printed on a T-shirt.  It's the kind of picture of Mark that tells thousands of words.  Just love it !!! ;)

I have this poster too,
My parents bought me it in 1996 after Lyon's Gig. (I guess it was an unofficial one).
Poooooor poster it really got damaged through the years... But I still got it... I'm looking for a brand new one with nothing writen on it ( Except "Mark Knopfler" above).

Yes, I've seen it on ebay - as a concert poster or ad for the GH album, but always with too much text on it...

By the way, can somebody enlighten me about that D'Addario ad? It was attached to either the OES or the STP tourbook, wasn't it?
