OMG I am just blown away,man... what a solo! The song he played with Bob is a proven fact that Mark is still the greatest guitar player alive. What a shame they don't play together more often this tour!

The recording sounds not bad! And MK definitively adds a lot great stuff to the song! How cool it would be to hear some of this style on the next album...

VERY standard solo. Any half-decent blues player down on your local pub could play that. Of course, the song sounding like a mix of Black Magic Woman and Think I Love You Too Much doesn't really give room for much creativity, but I was disappointed.

Yeah maybe, but still it's quite a long time since we heard Mark play that way, it's a matter of taste anyway! And I like Dylan on this one as well!

Hi, Jackal,
with the story we know about how this duet came to be I think it might be not so surprising that MK doesn't deliver a very great worked-out detailed guitar solo? I am not playing myself and have no idea, but I try to imagine: Just got the call, I'd like you to play on that and that song, just do the solo...
Even a guitarman like MK maybe needs time to think about it? Or not? Please tell, I know you play guitar yourself. Is it possible to put out a killer guitar solo anytime a day?

You've got good and bad days, for sure, but a player of Mark's caliber should be able to pull out something else than run-of-the-mill pentatonic licks (sorry for the jargon there). Especially now when he's on much better form than in a long time. The solos during his own set are so much better this time. So, Dylan's song being pretty straight forward (doesn't require hours of rehearsal), I definitely think Mark could have made more of it.

Having said that - it's still fantastic that he got to play with Dylan again. If he gets asked again, I hope it will be for a song where Mark gets to play more lyrically, preferably with a clean Strat sound. That's where he really shines, in my opinion. With the distorted Les Paul sound he gets a bit heavy handed.

Thank you Jackal!   I absolutely loved it!   Even Bob's voice sounded OK.  I would really like to hear MK doing more like this!   :P

Hey Jackal, I believe that the music pattern of "Beyond here lies nothin'" sounds more like "Further on up the road" than the songs you mention. What do you think?
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

THANK YOU for posting this Jackal!  ;D

I didn't hear the words Bob was singing, but that is because
I don't know the song either, but Mark's playing was great! ;D

Finally, a decent recording! Bob's voice is horrible (he should sing in some death metal band, anybody here remember Sepultura?), but MK does enhance the song really really well. Wish there was more collaboration! And yes, Mark's licks sound very much like "I Think I Love You Too Much".

Wow, if only he had played with Bob in Lille! Mark's a wonderful blues guitarist! It reminds me Mark's solo on Sonny Landreth song "Blue Tarp Blues"
They got a name for people like you, yeh they do
And they got a name for people like me too

BEYOND HERE LIES NOTHING

Beyond Here Lies Nothin'
I love you pretty baby
You're the only love I've ever known
Just as long as you stay with me
The whole world is my throne
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' we can call our own

I'm movin' after midnight
Down boulevards of broken cars
Don't know what to do without it
Without this love that we call ours
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' but the moon and stars

Down every street there's a window
And every window made of glass
We'll keep on lovin' pretty baby
For as long as love will last
Beyond here lies nothin'
But the mountains of the past

My ship is in the harbor
And the sails are spread
Listen to me pretty baby
Lay your hand upon my head
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' done and nothin' said
