As much as I hope it is true, the article seems a bit odd:

Finally he was persuaded by the group
It's the end of a perfect day..,.

We were intending to do one gig and call it a day, Mark Knopfler remembers.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

Today, Dire Straits still sell over 20 million records a year and insiders say plans for a tour are well advanced

A poorly written, poorly researched article with factual errors and math that doesn't add up is nothing new, but I wonder what's in it for the journalist or the newspaper? Journalists often create sensational stories to sell more newspapers, but it's not exactly "Lennon and Harrison Clones Produced in Lab - The Beatles to Reunite".

The fact that this "piece of news" is just on an arabic newspaper and so poorly written, and not in every newspaper in the world, makes it very very unlikely...

I guess he got confused with The Straits concert, heard bells and wrote that.
You might get lucky, now and then

Oh damn it, so their was no point in me fighting my way through the cobwebs to find my Dire Straits t-shirts, what a shame and what a waste of my afternoon. Thats the last time I trust the internet.

If it's because of The Straits then it goes to show people just the confusion the name can cause to the more ill informed.

That guy clearly mixed up everything.
That said my feeling is that there IS something cooking.
It can't be a tour with full band because John and Mike are already booked. At least until August.
DS reunion for the Olympic Games or MK touring with Bob ?
 ... Maybe both  ::)

What a cute little story. Seems like it is written just before the "On every street" announcement, with a little fabricated facts to spice up the mixture and enough details to stir up conversations in MK forums and updated just about to fit the date it appears. But not exactly. Anyway, it would be a nice surprise if MK considered playing with the Straits, as Dire straits. After all Guy has been reading feedback and opinions from fans and forums, and maybe he passes them on to MK. (Now if this isn't a fabricated story...)
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
