Terminal of Tribute To (Mark Knopfler)

LYRICS
On the road again in cabaret
Grey hair and Fenders
Old ghosts revisited today
No original members

Pick out a pretty one and toss your hair
Seems foolish when you’re older
You always felt you never had your share
A chip on both your shoulders

You’ve been faking it so long
Now you don’t know right from wrong
Or what the future has in store for you
In the terminal of tribute to

Every day you take the bitter pill
The minibus driver says and you are who
You never made it and you never will
In the terminal of tribute to

Where your plans are forever falling through
And your dreams are movies never shot
And you’re someone, a shadow passing through
Nobody ever knew, so nobody forgot

Your bag has fallen from the carousel
They say one day it could come back to you
Exactly when nobody can tell
In the terminal of tribute to

You’ve been faking it so long
Now you don’t know right from wrong
Or what the future has in store for you
In the terminal of tribute to

You’ve been faking it so long
Now you don’t know right from wrong
Or what the future has in store for you
In the terminal of tribute to

Gosh ! Is this dedicated to Alan Clark, Phil Palmer and possibly others ? In that case that's very violent ... More than Gilmour's "what do you want from me ..."
And by the way which one was pink ? ;)

I thought the same... This looks written for Alan, Chris, Phil etc etc

Now, take a read at "OKlahoma Ponnies"...
You might get lucky, now and then

My question in that case is why did he wrote this song? I don't really understand!!!!!!!!! ???
But it's written in the starlight and every line on your palm, we're fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

Writting songs it´s his way yo express himself...

Now... take "Let´s See You" and read the lyrics, thinking in all the arguments he had with Ed Bicknell during the recordings and production days of the "STP" record, before they broke their relationship, and you will see that MK is talking about it along the song... and, yes, Ed had a gold arm chair  ;D

In Guy´s forum: "Hello, Doc, Is this song what it seems? If the answer is yes, Mark got nuts!!!"

He answers: "I couldn't possibly comment"    ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes Jbaent but if he didn't approve the Straits's shows why didn't he tell them directly when they were making them? I thought that he still owned the songs they sang or are they now belonging to the Dire Straits period. Anyway it's not going to be easy for the Straits to digest this song!!

LOL of course Guy can't comment this question, if I remember correctly he said himself that his favourite song on Tracker was precisely this one!! :wave

As far as I know there are no rights attached to playing songs from other artists. There are rights attached to the writing, the publishing, and the playback of disks. Now if whoever wants to play Sultans in front of whatever crowd,  I think nobody can stop them...

Yes you're right Herlock, anyone can sing Sultans of Swing but these guys are his former band and I assumed wrongly that he was ok with this!!! Had really no idea he'd react like that!! It came as a total surprise!! But well maybe there's been something bad between them that I don't know anything about!! Showbusiness is the same everywhere!!

I didnt notice this sentence:

"You always felt you never had your share"

This sentence is a clear reference to Alan, describes pretty well his relationship with MK during the last DS days, I read that Alan used to complain about he never got the credit he deserved from his contributions with the band, and thats why in OES says that DS are MK, JI, AC and GF.

And this:

"Where your plans are forever falling through
And your dreams are movies never shot"

Guy recently told in his forum, about Alan working this days in his all stuff, that he already worked with him in his own songs years ago, and never got anywhere with it...

Every line like a dagger through the heart.  Ouch!

I'm a bit shocked to be honest.  This will seriously offend.

I agree with you dmg but there's got to be a good reason for this song!!!! You don't start to go public like he does if the other part has not done something terribly wrong before or what do you think???

It's got the best solo of the 16 songs I've heard, the lyrics make it even better:)
This has to be played live with one or two guests from the old days!
