New interview appeared with GF.

https://www.amazona.de/interview-guy-fletcher-roxy-music-dire-straits-english-version/

Once I finish work on Mark Knopfler’s new album, Mark and I will be continuing on with the Local Hero musical which is scheduled to hit the stage in 2019. Then we have a tour planned for Europe and the US. Meanwhile, I will be recording some of my own stuff and who knows what else may come along.

So they will be touring after the Local Hero project is up and running? In 2019?

It confirms our guesses, album out after summer 2018, local hero early 2019, MK tour summer 2019
Interesting interview but was it originally written down in English?

Overdubs ...  maybe after the sessions they were needed and Richard not available ...but then again the only reason why Mark would not do it by himself would be a live recording because of the vibes between them..

I do not get what you mean LE. Good or bad vibes, and between who?

Sorry if not clear. Mark could do overdubs any time on his own. The only reason to get a second guitarist  in could be that they play together for the live feel, the vibes of the recording. Better?

I think the website with the interview is a german  one, as there are german  names in the contact area. But I am sure that the interview was originally in English.

Also from that interview:

"The Notting Hillbillies album was recorded entirely on the Synclavier 8-track ‘Direct to Disk’ Hard Disk system. All the drums were samples as well as the pianos and bass, I played them all."

I didn't know that they went that far with the Synclavier.

Obviously Robbie has his own style and touch (also more skilled purely technically than MK)  so maybe they were looking for that, not necessarily anything to do with doing takes together at the same time.

Maybe today... both at their peak Mark wipes the floor with Robbie anytime. Anyway, I don't think that's the case. My guess is either like LE said for the live interaction or rhythm parts that suit Robbie's style better than Richard's, which might mean a more commercial approach if you will.

He did a fine job there. I'd never say Will You Miss Me had drums samples.

I've been listening to lots of Hillbillies and Mark+Chet songs last few days. Excellent work there. If only we could have another album like that. I'd buy four copies but nobody's listening.

MK is highly skilled of course but he has always stayed in his very own garden. He is a master of the fingerpicking and he masters the MK style obviously lol.
Robbie is way more versatile and can play basically anything and in many different styles. That's what makes him technically more skilled. Technically isn't a bad word.

MK is the best at what he does and that's pretty much it.

Mark can play anything apart from metal and its variations. The difference between him and Robbie in this department is that no matter the style you know it’s Mark Knopfler whereas Robbie isn’t distinguished.

Exactly that, Trawlerman. Was about to write something similar after I had watched that Bucket of Rain clip with Robbie in the other thread.
