How about Rick Ruben?

O yes! Or Daniel Lanois. Peopel like this producers can to take artist into minimalistic and more dark way. I like hear Mark in this way.

My guess is they are making a multi collaboration "MK and Friends" album. Recorded over a long period, so not able to involve the American part of his band. Stuffed with covers and new music a bit like Jools Holland's stuff.

Considering that they are in the studio since September and they only had one band session and it looks like an announcement will be made soon, my guess is that finally we'll get "the box" with those tracks left out of previous records, unfinished etc that required final touches or some things added here and there, accompanying the documentary DVD...

Please, oh please!

If the above is true, why would Guy call that "exciting" and "different"?
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Normally, that would be great, but this project has been hyped as being exciting and different, so it must be more than that, otherwise I would be more than a bit disappointed.   We already know about the DVD anyway, which I'm sure will be in some kind of box set along with the new material.

From Guy today:

"Yes, I think we can safely rule a reunion well and truly out."

For the recording of Tracker which started in autumn 2013 the first entry of the reocrding diary dates from February 27th, 2014.
Don't build up to much tension.

Thank god no reunion. Won't even imagine how that would have sounded. I am still pretty convinced that it has something to do with the 40 years Dire Straits Jubilee next year. A usual solo album would be perfect for me, wouldn't beg for more.

Exciting and different, in Guy´s words, sound pretty much the same than "the best record we ever did" or "the best tour we ever did"

Got to be particular guests joining the party. No re-union, so surely to God it has to be other high-profile names doing some twiddly bits!  ;D

Yep, high calibre collaborations to celebrate 40 years of MK I reckon. We're constantly told he doesn't look back, but he's not getting any younger (as are any of us). So maybe he's letting this front down and celebrating it in style.
