What I don't like is when there's a 10-song album and then loads of b-sides spread all over the place. If you have 20 songs and all of them are gonna get released so do it at once and put out a double album.

That's not commercially viable for a standard release.

It's far better in commercial terms to release a single cd and then do a deluxe version with the bonus for the die hard fans.
You might get lucky, now and then

I'm not talking about comparing. However, the fact that Mark does not leave the studio gives me much joy :)

It's his studio.

Bob has been touring uninterruptedly from so long that I don't remember... MK hasn't toured since three years ago and it doesn't look he will do it until next year.

To compare pros and cons of any artist versus Mk is a very easy game.
Bob since 1987 on his never ending tour.lol

any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

There's a huge difference between not viable and less profitable but let's assume what you say is true. We live in the digital era and packing deluxe versions with bonus tracks doesn't make anyone buy those just for the songs. Die hard fans buy a deluxe version because of its physical content: books, pictures, posters, vinyls... by the time the box arrives they've listened to every single song (b-sides included) dozens and dozens of times - meaning extra songs play an insignificant role in the process.

Of course there's a reason why executives do what they do but we are talking about the same guys who, according to GF himself, don't think a Mark Knopfler blu-ray would sell well.

Anyway, I didn't want to trigger off a marketing debate, I just said that I don't like b-sides being released separately.

That's the only way to get them... There has been some MK records from where we didn't get any extras or just one if we were lucky.

Those songs usually got filed, and now we are lucky to have some of them.

Sometimes those actually drive me mad, like when Camerado, Early Bird and Terminal are left out.

Really sick and tired of these €200 "deluxe" boxes that are only available in Zimbabwe on February 29h from 1.17pm to 1.23pm, that you buy just to get 3 additional songs and loads of useless stuff. C'mon ! This has been digital age for quite a long time !

Hey, you might get lucky now and then and find some fake poker chips in the box!

I agree though - it annoys the hell out of me when one country can get the likes of Hot Dog and the rest of the world can't.  What is it with that?

Replace Zimbabwe with Germany and you are spot on.
