Have to admit this part always makes me smile:

Now I wish you sunny skies
And happiness wherever you may go
But you got to realise
There'll be wind, there'll be rain
And occasional snow

For me this song is not really about shoes but about life itself. It mentions many situation of life that anyone would live, and our attitude about all those situations, and that part, "You got to realise there'll be wind, rain and occasional snow" is a clear reflect of some of the difficulties life have for you.

Oh yes! I think that's the main topic of The Ragpicker's Dream album, I like how Mark reflects on life itself and especially the working class there. It's astonishing to me how underrated his music is, but maybe, many years from now, it will get the attention it deserves. From the cover picture to every song, it's an absolute classic.

Yes, it's about not being home in a way. The closest to a concept album from MK as it could get. Every song is about not being home, being away, wanting to get home, and the dream iin the title is exactly that.. Home.

He used to say that KTGC was also thematic about old England, I remember he used to mention a certain decade but can't remember which one.

He talked about times of war (Let It All Go) and much earlier (Madame Geneva's)
I know the way I can see by the moonlight
Clear as the day
Now come on woman, come follow me home

I always thought it's a great song, not only by the classic rock mood it has but also because of the lyrics, so funny...

I think it's really one of MK's finest tunes, agree with amazing funny lyrics - so underrated......

With regards KTGC, I'd also say the 1960's with the Shadows and especially Hanks 'Strat' sound which by the early 60's had that well known sound to it which MK liked and is evident on this album!!

Oh yeah! As I calculated earlier, half of the album was played with a pick, and half of the album is waltzes. Such experimantal album!

KTGC has gone from being one of my least liked albums to being amongst my favourites.   Such a beautiful album!   :)

Same with me here. It has grown on me year by year.
Maybe it has something to do with getting older  ;)

Could be.  The lyrics of "We Can Get Wild" especially remind me of the 50s - Bert Weedon's "Play in a Day", the DA haircut and also "this rocking cat" which would be Elvis, I presume.

That's true. A good example is the song We Can Get Wild.

"We'll be on our own Billy Fury on the gramophone...

Probably more of a homage to Hank with both the pick and sound.....
