ON THE NIGHT 10.05.1993
« on: May 10, 2018, 01:25:55 PM »
25 years old has the album On The Night.
Missing Sultans Of Swing, Telegraph Road, Planet Of New Orleans ... but it's a fantastic album.

I doubt it. Recently, I was listening to Tunnel Of Love from Uniondale in a 24-minute version. But from the Brothers In Arms tour.

I can understand your frustration, but on the other hand, it's perfectly fine that Mark decided not to do an "Alchemy 2" out of this tour.

not fine at all since the sound is 100% different and some alchemy songs are actually there and some never released songs are not there and will be never heard

it's just complete nonsense overall

Dire Straits has always been a concert band. The last official album should be richer.

If I'm not mistaken those songs were left out because the label didn't want it to be yet another double album. I don't know why those were not included on the VHS/DVD though. Length issues perhaps? Anyway, despite deeply disliking the inclusion of those sax solos in Sultans that would still be a nice to have.

I read somewhere that MK said about OTN he wanted to do a very different live record, with new material (think I love you too much and or long highway?) but the record company wanted something more like a souvenir from the tour and in a single cd...

They could easily have been included as extras on the DVD.  As PensaGhost says, the versions were then very different to those played on the LOG tour.

The CD came in a double case (here in the UK) to include space for the Encores disc anyway so I don't know why a double CD was an issue.

I never understand why a double cd is an issue at all... usually they are more expensive than single cds but not that much...

To be the last live album of the DS, it was very modest. A release that marks the ultimate DS tour without SOS, TR or TOL? Even today, it's weird. Nevertheless, the DVD release is poor, does not contain extra, so many wonderful things could include of this tour, could put the documentary 24 Heures subtitled, besides some songs that were left out like SOS, TR, TOL, Planet of New Orlens, I think I love you too much ... it would make a record more dignified and complete for the moment of the band. Technology exists for this, lack good will!  :(
