If Mark was to do a streaming concert in these times..
« on: March 26, 2020, 01:55:13 PM »
Hi all,

I didn’t want to hijack the thread about Mark being in the studio soon but it did get me thinking. If Mark was to do a streaming concert from home, as a few others are, what songs do you think he’d do?

Unfortunately, a lot of Mark’s music is written with a band in mind even though it may just be written on acoustic guitar and so the ones that WOULD work in the circumstances might be a bit predictable. Even having Guy on keyboards would open up His range but clearly that’s currently out of the question.

So what songs do you think he’d do?

In roughly this order, my prediction (but not my choice of a setlisth might be:

Sailing to Philly
Donegan’s Gone
Done with Bonaparte (on an acoustic)
TLWNF
Back to Tupelo
SFSL

Others would work well (5.15am would be a personal request) but that’s my guess of songs he’d plump for. What do others think?

Wild Theme,
True Love Will Never Fade,
Heart of Oak,
Iron Hand,
Baloney Again,
Marbletown,
All That Matters,
Secondary Waltz,
Monteleone,
Get Lucky,
River of Grog,
Matchstick Man.
All on acoustic guitar, on his own. I doubt he would play much old Dire Straits songs, but if he did, he could add:
Wild West End,
Romeo & Juliet,
The Man's Too Strong.
It would be a great show, but I doubt it would happen, but if he played one or songs it would be great.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Not going to happen (prove me wrong Mark  ;D), but I reckon solo stuff except one.  These could maybe work well enough:

R&J
Sonny Liston
Matchstick Man
Baloney Again
Devil Baby
Marbletown
Old Pigweed
5:15 a.m.
Everybody Pays
Get Lucky
Monteleone
Haul Away
Silver Eagle
Heart of Oak
Sky and Water

Of course he could have Guy on a screen beside him on Skype!

I think he could play anything, if we keep in mind that he actually composes the songs on an acoustic guitar by himself, anything is possible, even telegraph road

Of course TR was composed on piano by Alan Clark.  ;)

I'd be lucky just with him playing an acoustic guitar.

Stay safe out (and in) there!

I'd pay just to watch him noodle on the guitar.

Yeah I don’t realistically think it will happen but it’s interesting to muse over.

Funnily enough, one of the songs that popped into my head was Iron Hand so funny that the first reply should mention it. I think the chances of him resurrecting it are about as likely as him doing a solo show.

Regarding the fact that they were all written by him just on guitar. Yes this is true, but I bet that most of the time, he’s got the full band playing in his head as he writes.

Yeah, that would be great!
Anyway, I would watch even when he was reading a book. Love his voice.
