Sometimes I feel that criticising Mark's work on this forum is like showing a drawing of Muhammad to the Taliban.

Ok, so what if instead people talks like they were not stating facts and the rest we are wrong?

Would that be easier?

I guess no, people who think are always right would find this difficult always.

Of course, there is no human being who can be right about everything all the time. But there is no need to emphasize that. I didn't see an I-know-everything attitude here. Those who like it can express why they like it and those who don't like it can express why they don't like it. Remember, my friend, you say. We are not sheep so that we like everything that is put in front of us 😀

Say you don't like a song is ok

Say a song is bad is stating a fact, which in reality only apply to you, but it is said like it was a fact

Say you don't like MK record such things is ok

Saying MK shouldn't waste time recording such songs is stating a fact, when in reality is just an opinion

Is it clearer?

Criticism is perfectly ok, as long as you are giving your opinion, and not stating false facts.

And remember to end all statements with "not that there is anything wrong with that".

I don't know what's going on. It's not my favorite MK style, but I have the song in my head all the time.

I don't know what's going on. It's not my favorite MK style, but I have the song in my head all the time.

I play it all day, that brass first notes are so catchy...

Also how the solos are distributed along the song between verses is so well planned, the piano, the sax, MK guitar. Also the MK and Richard jazz chords during the song are so catchy. Having the lyrics I imagined a lot of ways this song could sound. The reality is even better than I expected.

I don't have any problem with MK wasting his time writing and recording songs like this, in the contrary. I hope he keeps wasting his time for all the future with songs like this

I really like the song, I find it paints a picture of a sleepy jazz room full of smoke "Bake in the Day" it is great to have a new song from Mark, and another one to come. The fact this was withdrawn from the album is of no concern to me, he must have dozens of songs that he has done that with, we keep going on about Bonfire Night for example, I would love to hear it, but if we hear it, we may not like it and wonder what the fuss was all about, or we might think it is amazing and rave about it, then as we have here we have people thinking both of those things apply, that's fine we can't all like the same thing, I have said in the past, I like everything Mark has written, I find merit in all over his songs, even the likes of Ticket to Heaven or Les Boys, I might be in the minority and that's fine.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I think it's a great song, a great musical challenge for him, experimenting with jazzy sounds and arrangements. Nigel, Jim and Ianto are excellent musically on this, and I think the way MK describes the jaz scene in that concrete time is so great as usual.

As Guy said on his Kansas 2019 diary entry, a hidden gem

Nah, it's not great at all - musically or Lyrically! Bottom of the pile for me I'm afraid!

At least someone talking like the way is meant to be. The "for me" part is the key. I totally respect you don't like it. I love it, so it's a matter of taste in the end...

And I of course fully respect that you like the song - I really miss the 'proper' MK guitar work so much. Good job we are all different....

Les Boys is a great song!  So many similarities to his classic Sultans yet not the recognition it deserves.  Far superior to the vast majority of songs he writes these days.

Oh dear!  Well is it better or worse than any from the last album?  I'd say only One Song at a Time is better.

It's worse than most of the songs on DTRW!  "Drovers' Road" is my favourite.  The only ones I don't care for are "Just a Boy" "Slow Learner" and "Heavy Up" - it's probably better than those. ;)
