Another missed opportunity :disbelief

LOL!

Beware that we can return to that endless discussion about how bad is MK management and MK related products.

Because next MK release will be a blown up radio.

Bruce Springsteen would do it differently  :D

Sometimes I dream of a world where Mark releases even half of what Bruce does, both live shows and unheard studio stuff. It would be wonderful.

Aside from the rather odd choice of no live material, why not at least include the B-sides (Let’s See You, Camerado, Long Highway etc.)?

Come to think of it, if Guy is remixing from the original tracks, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to put out all those unreleased songs from the STP sessions? I haven’t decided yet whether I’m buying this or not, but if they had included Two Skinny Kids then I wouldn’t be able to give them my money fast enough!

Also, I get the distinct feeling that this release will probably put paid to the chances of anything else being released this year, such as the fabled Henrik Hansen documentary and any accompanying live album / set. We’ve had the excellent Brothers in Arms 40th with the San Antonio recording this year and I’m grateful for that…but it’s hard not to feel a little downhearted with the announcement of this rather limited STP reissue. I still hold out some small hope that we might one day see a live box set of recordings from Mark’s solo career but this reissue doesn’t exactly inspire confidence!

Exactly, Two Skinny Kids is the Holy Grail for me, just to be teased by the not great live recording is not enough, I bet the studio recording is great.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

A lot of negativity here, yes I would have liked more and I already own the record so don't care about that, but the Atmos/instrumental is nice to have so that's good.

Incidentally, the blu-ray of ODR appeared to be available on the SDE website yesterday.

I wonder why Mark "hid" the songs "Two Skinny Kids" and "It's Been a While"? Why he only played them once in Nashville in June 1998.

This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in Mark's solo albums sales.  It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Universal  :P

Yes I saw that, too.

I agree with you and that's what I meant with the catalogue thing. We will see more re-releases in the future and as long as they keep it fresh, it's all good. I mean, last year had a LOT of new stuff, this year San Antonio, and we are still greedy and never can't get enough.

Come on, a vinyl / BR only re release can't be sactisfatory when there is so much other things in the vault.

Who will buy that stuff, collectors and MK die hard fan. Good for them.

I wonder if it is Mark's grumpy decision not to allow unreleased stuff for that album, or worse, if this just the market that will not make a more ambitious release to be profitable. I fear the later being the right answer.

Remember the CD thing with BIA? Guy seems to be the driving force behind this Atmos releases and I think it's a good sign to carry Mark's legacy into a new promising format and be one of the first artists to be connected with atmos mixes. Mark was always thinking this way about techical development. He was also very early when in 2007 he re-started or give more attention to vinyl releases again, way before the vinyl boom got the attention it has nowadays.

All this talk about unreleased stuff. Maybe there isn't any? Talking about the 29 stp songs, maybe they are worked in and used for later releases? If there is stuff, maybe it's just not GOOD enough?

I never understood the demand for the Madrid DVD either. Such a bad stage view, the band looking like dressed in rags, Mark's vocals really bad, nothing that would ever add a visual value to anything...  I mean if any, the 2008 Show had a good stage design and a good setlist, but Madrid 2001really never should leave the vaults really...

I don't care about the outtakes that much, there's probably a good reason Mark put them aside. I would love the Madrid DVD, but it's never going to happen, which is fine with me too. However, I really can't understand why they wouldn't include the Toronto show. The only good reason would be that the recording is missing, any other excuse makes no sense. I would have bought this release 100% with a live show. Now I see no reason to buy it since I don't have the gear to play Atmos. A real shame since STP remains his best solo album. I never get bored with it, and there's no record I've listened to more than STP.

It's just that STP happens to be the MK solo record with more possibilities for a real treat of a 25th anniversary box, yes, too high expectations, so high dissapoinment.
