(17) Oklahoma Ponies (traditional melody, lyrics and arrangement by Mark Knopfler)

LYRICS
   We’re a badass band
From the kick ass south
Pizza goin’ down the sofa
A rockin’ little band
Got a record out
And buddy it’s a hit all over
We’re a badass band
From the kick ass south
Cornchips in the shagpile
We’re a’ gonna punch
One another in the mouth
They’re giving us a brand new hairstyle

Get on down, turn ‘em all around
Kick ’em in the old cojones
Gotta get on down, turn ‘em all around
We’re the Oklahoma Ponies
Get on down, turn ‘em all around
Kick ’em in the old cojones
Gotta get on down, turn ‘em all around
‘Cos we’re the Oklahoma Ponies

Now the badass boys
They’re a’ gonna wanna fight
Like they do in Oklahoma
They got a killer girl
To dress us right
And buddy do I wanna bone her
We’re a badass band
From the kick ass south
Pizza going down the sofa
A rockin’ little band
With a record out
And buddy it’s a hit all over

Get on down, turn ‘em all around
Kick ’em in the old cojones
Gotta get on down, turn ‘em all around
We’re the Oklahoma Ponies
Get on down, turn ‘em all around
Kick’em in the old cojones
Gotta get on down, turn ‘em all around
‘Cos we’re the Oklahoma Ponies

Haven't heard the song, but the lyrics crack me up and I can just imagine them set to some traditional country melody.

I have a hard time thinking that these lyrics would go in the musical stylings of Basil  ;D
"My idea of heaven is a place where the Tyne meets the Delta, where folk music meets the blues."

Yeah we've got the box-set! Only for this you should buy it haha. It's not a bonus track. Could perfectly be on the album. Really really great rocking tune

Ben Knopfler (MK´s son) has a badass band that play metal rock... could this be a homage to his son´s band? The intro is quite like a hard rock band, and also the end, even the song is more like Celtic Dance thing...

Jbaent, You could be right!    I haven't heard the song, but reading the lyrics they would certainly fit a band like The Rocket Dolls!  I would love to hear this song!    ;)
