John McCusker (with Mike McGoldrick) is posting on Instagram from Canada while there is currently a band session at BG. Maybe John touring in June/July 2018 does not exclude the possibility of MK touring in 2018?
Or is the band session already over?

It's a mystery to me...

John is not in every song Mark records - and even if it's not the case his parts can be added later in the process. Since BG became fully functional Mark changed his recording approach, he's no longer so keen on recording everything live in studio. Still, a mystery to me too lol

McCusker and McGoldrick don't have to be necessarily be part of every band session for the New album and it is most possibly not only one session but a couple of some more.

I think they record the same material over and over on each band session, the only difference is different microphones...

They are all at an age now where high frequency deafness negates any difference in mic quality.   :lol

Actually I doubt very much that happen in the band sessions. I'd say they do two or three takes as maximum, and that would be too much.

Is before the band sessions, when MK and Guy are alone, where they spend days and weeks just trying mics and amps.

Band sessions are expensive, each musicians gets paid for hours of work, that's why when they come, everything is ready to record quickly.

Guys, I'd like to share with you some info I got just today - with a clear warning it must me taken with a huge grain of salt.

I have a friend from New Zealand that knows a technician who's worked for both Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton. According to him MK and EC discussed further collaborations during the recordings for the JJ Cale tribute. The guy wasn't at BG at the time but has connections and apparently that's what he heard.

As I said, as much as I trust my mate this is NOT official! He heard it from someone who heard it from someone who heard it... but can it be true? I'd like to think so.
