LYRICS

When you leave
There’s cordite in the air
A ringing in the stillness
Smoke drifting up the stair
When you leave

When you leave
My heart sounds in my ears
A beating in the darkness
A trace of you still here
When you leave
When you leave

Like it or not
How could I not have fallen for you?
And now that I’m caught
How could I not be blue?

When you leave
I’ll hear the smallest sound
And turn to look behind me
As though you’re still around
When you leave
When you leave

Surprised not to see any comments on this song so far. I love how it sounds almost like a Russian romance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_romance). I feel a lot of Eastern Europe in it and not so much jazz. Very poignant song for sure and one of my favourites from the album and not because of jazz at all.

You are right... It's a lovely jazzy balad, I love any single blow from the trumpet... what a great track...

It has something from the Metroland instrumental songs... and what a piano.
You might get lucky, now and then

One of my favourites as well.

Nice song.  Good atmosphere and vocal from Mark.  The trumpet lends a touch of class.  I can't see myself listening to this often but it's very nice nonetheless.

Indeed, not much chatter but this track is sublime.
A bit of a shock to hear GOYS afterwards if I'm honest!
Hey, i`ve got a truffle dog - finally a song the ordinary man can relate too!

Indeed.
I find the running order from the first 6 tracks somewhat strange... 2-3-4 for example.. pretty harsh..

What a lovely song! I just got a bit into Jazz last couple of months, so it's great to hear Mark exploring his boundaries too.
