I always bought my cds in local music stores but "modern times" ruined it in the end, "Shangri-La" was the last MK cd I bought in a local store, when "All the roadrunning" came out, there wasn't any local music store where I lived, a town of almost 30.000 people, so I had to travel one hour by train to the closest city with one, Valencia... and with no time to do such travels and being impossible to find MK records the day of their release (I visited 5 stores, two of them big chains when DTRW was released with no luck at all...) I ended buying everything online... I've no time to waste traveling one hour to Valencia and another hour back home with empty hands...

But there are such things as phones and you know the release date and title months before for sure, so it's no big thing to check the stores and ask them and order it.
No traveling for nothing needed.

Usually the answer is "We don't know, it should arrive on friday (usually the release date) but we won't know until we open the box", and then, you arrive on friday and they didn't receive it, or say they would receive it later or whatever other excuse...

With one of the MK records I waited a couple of weeks, as I had the mp3, but open the real thing the release date, or two, three days letter is for me, as a fan, part of the experience, having to wait so much ruins it, so unfortunately I have to rely on amazon who delivers on time, sometimes even before.

Here in the Uk the big stores like Juno and Badlands arrange it so your record is delivered on release day.

Only issue is the fact that since the pandemic hit vinyl editions can arrive months after it hits Spotify, crazy stuff.

In Spain you can get new releases the same idea of artists promoted by the record companies, the ones that are trendy and the very big Spanish names. In the case of Knopfler... He's not trendy anymore but in some big cities you can find the standard version the day of release or the day after , but no the deluxe or the box.

Valencia is the third biggest city in Spain but looks that not big enough for artists like MK and special editions...

Sorry, I meant you could get records delivered here on release day.

Although I did also buy DTRW and Metroland on release day here in store as well.

I got all MK stuff since OES in local record stores on release day or one or two days earlier. Deluxe Editions included. Seems I got lucky.

Yes, interesting to read.
In the late 1980s i have bought a lot of Vinyl-LPs, Maxis, Singles and CDs, in local record-stores in my hometown. From those little record-stores not only one had survived to the 21st century, only the big Media-Markt-Store and the Saturn-Store.
I loved those little stores from the Eighties, some had also vintage vinyls not only the new material, so, i always had luck to find interesting records. Yes, that´s history, now.
No i´m still visiting record-stores with vintage-vinyl in Germany, also close to my hometown. In one store i have found a Japan-pressing of Making Movies in like new condition for a few euro.

Back on thread, I'm picking up my 'Limited Edition' copy of 'Encores' up this afternoon....

Ta Da! Just back from picking my copy up..I'm told there were only 6000 copies of 'Encores' produced Worldwide for 'Black Friday' record store day 26th November 2021...

The sound is epic...
