I have never liked the Montserrat version.
I just gave a new try - and it stil  don't do it for me

But, but, later in the show, when Paul is starting Golden Slumbers, OMG, the tears are coming each time.

Yeah, Golden Slumbers etc was the highlight for me. Amazing that MK got to play that guitar duel on that song.

I liked Jimmy Buffet too.

"In BIA the guitar is drawn into the orchestra"

Not just BIA, MFN and Golden Slumbers, too, to name but those three. And all guitars (EC's as well) ARE drawn and literally drowned into it, but they orginally weren't.
It got out that way because the rights were bought for radio and TV commercial purposes and they made their own awful mix which in no way reflects the quality of what we heard that night. With the original mix, the sound was so much clearer, so well defined, so amazing !  MK's guitar was as we know it, and the orchestra was gracing it. I remember I couln't believe my own ears the sound was so exceptionally good !

Well, yes and no.
Yes, because the first DVD issue had only one dolby mix, which was horrible.
No, because the second issue also features a DTS mix, which is quite fine.
For BIA I'm not complaining about the mix. More about the fact that the orchestra is a bit too much. But this is quite a great version anyway. Just as a matter of taste I prefer Wembley 85.

Are you talking about BIA, MFN, or both?

Absolutely-Golden Slumbers and Kansas City are something else. Mark, Sting, Eric, Jools, Macca, Robbie Mc, Ianto, Phil c…..and I’ve barely scratched the surface

Wembley 85 is my favorite, too. And no band could ever replace the "Dire Straits Rock'n Roll Orchestra" !   ;)

I still love to watch Eric and Mark play the stripped back version of Layla, and Mark's solo was amazing.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Yes, one of the highlights of that fabulous night and, undoubtedly, the most surprising !   :)

I'm not keen on BIA from this gig:  voice is shot and a little mistake at the end.

MFN sounds like he doesn't dampen the notes properly during the opening solo.

WT should never be played on the Gibson.

In saying all that it's a very enjoyable show because for the majority of the songs they sound really good.

Our tastes differ, dmg :)
I think this MFN version is the most rocking ever, probably the very best, save for the lack of intro.
And I absolutely love WT and GH on a Gibson. Vaison 96 version of GH is my absolute favourite. Strong sound and energetic. Saint Julien 2013 with no sax was less good but still great...

Can you enlighten me, dmg - what is WT?    :hmm  I'm sure I should know, but I can't think of anything!   :think

Edit:  Just remembered - Wild Theme!    Too early in the morning for me, obviously!    ;D

I think most musicians would be thrilled to play The Beatles with a Beatle, although Mark had played with Paul before. I bet Guy was thrilled too. But to be able to play in the 3 man guitar jam at 4:05 must have been great for Mark, I am sure Paul has huge respect for Mark as a performer and songwriter.
