So how Mark is going to make it into the studio when he actually sold his shoes on a charity auction? :hmm

And doesn’t have a guitar either!

On a more serious level, the stricter lockdown rules might delay the inital work of MK and GF at BG on the new album.
Hopefully both stay healthy.

The time just screams for a proper 'solo' album, but I think there's 1% chance of MK doing it, unfortunately. Imagine the album filled with songs like Matchstick Man, Heart Of Oak, etc. Mark had many acoustic versions of his songs which sounds amazing. I have a little collection of his acoustic performances, and all of them, including Romeo & Juliet, was extremely great.

Yes, I would like a solo album very much -  with Guy on keys, of course.   :)

Just Mark and his guitar would be fine.
But now the most important thing is that Mark and everyone around him keep safe and stay healthy. Hopefully better times will come soon.
This is all the heaven we've got right here where we are in our shangri-la.

They were about 3 weeks in the studio as far as I know, now in December. My guess is that it was just the two of them, maybe some of the other Brits.

It would be the two of them for most of the time, until songs are ready for bass, drums and other instruments. I guess that logic says they are doing all guitars and keyboards.
You might get lucky, now and then

It does make you wonder how many people they actually NEED. If everything was stripped back, could they Handel most of it themselves. Could they, for example, do without Glenn Saggers? I fully understand it must be more convenient with him around but I reckon there’s nothing that he can do that Mark and Guy can’t.

I recall that MK recorded "Marbletown" himself in his flat? For a full-time rocker album for sure they can't do it, but a simple one they can handle I think. The problem is they probably don't want a simple album :-\

Guy can do the engineering, producing, play keyboards, bass and drums, MK can play all guitars and even the bass, but all the technic side of the recording, and the maintenance of the instruments, they need the techs. Probably they can do some of it themselves, but not in the level required.

It's not unusual for an artist to do everything on there on, for example Mike Oldfield lives on the Bahamas, and he plays and records everything himself, and he does the production and engineering too, but then again Mike is unique, and it's just Mark's thing to do that, plus Mark owns a big studio so probably doesn't seem to need a studio at home, even a small one.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Studio 2 in British Grove, where he records everything when they are just MK and Guy, was built to emulate that home studio in Holland Park Mews, but with a better equipment in the control room.

As you can see in some pictures, MK record his guitars and voices in that room (studio 2) and Guy controls the desk and play beyboards from the control room. When they bring one musician to play just his part (like when Ian Thomas went to Studio 2 to record alone drums for "Rivre towns") they use also that room in studio 2, or the own control room.

It's only when they have a bigger number of musicians that they go to Studio1.

So, yes, River of Grog, Heart of Oak and Matchstick Man were recorded with MK alone at Studio 2 with Guy at the control room.

I guess that's a picture from Guy's Instagram where he answered the question that they're recording MK songs. Pretty interesting, but some context would be nice!
